Help Grade

What do you think this card will be graded?

  • Thibs, can you scan it against something not a white background. Maybe it's me, but I cannot see the borders to well against the white background. Or is this from an EBay auction you are interested in?

  • Im sorry hear it is.
  • Is there paper loss on the right side, just below the corner? It looks like a 6 to me,unless that is paper loss.

Upper right corner of the back scan looks like a pretty serious ding. That alone would bring it to a 5, 6 at best, IMO. Looks like the bottom edge toward the right is a little chewed up on the same scan.

  • First the DISCLAIMER!

I can't tell you how many times I have seen a scan of a card and it DOES NOT NEARLY compare to the card you see in person. Granted there is always that piece of sh@t that somebody missed, but you CAN NOT grade a card by the scan!

With that said, barring any creases, wrinkles, restoration, trimming, border eraser, corner bends, loss of gloss, etc., etc., etc. I'll guess 7.

very true.. i actually have to tilt my cards under a bright light to judge their surface wear.. about the only thing that can really be judged from a scan is centering, and sometimes trimming if its real obvious..

Exactly what a grader should do to even see anything about a card in ANY holder! I don't care who has "perfected" there holders, there's nothing like holding that card in your hands and judging "A book by its cover"! With the technology today (and Photoshop software) you can make a card look like a perfect gem on any scan.

By the way, the graders at "the services" use a 50w halogen light. Some use it with a completety dark room and others use them with the flourescent lights illuminated above.
