1978 Topps PSA 10 1 of 1's

I really like them in my registry, but I am so early in this set, same quandry as our friend in 1974 Topps. Sell them to help fund the PSA 9's that I originally wanted for my registry?

Yea, that's what I would do. I don't know the collectability of the '78 set compared to the '74 set (I would guess it's a more collectable set), but I remember seeing some posts recently about crazy prices in the '78 set. Sell the 10s and get some nice money for them. I assume you submitted them yourself so you really don't have much to lose.

    My two cents.

Yes I did submit them myself, and two of them are low pop in PSA 9 also. I suppose I could pick up a bunch of PSA 9's with what ever they sell for. When I started my registry, I had visions of 9's across the board anyway.

I think the same advise applies. Use them to offset the costs of your nines. If you do as well as the other guy with the '74s you'll be able to buy the Murray and Molitor with no out of pocket expenses.

    Congrats on the submission. image
  • It would seem that for most modern cards, a PSA 10 1 of 1 will not stay that way indefinately. You can buy a lot of 9's for the price of some of those 10's unless you have reason to believe that there is some reason that they will stay 1 of 1's. A couple of years from now after more 78's are submitted you can buy the third or the fourth for a lot less money and still end up in the same place. My recommendation would be to move them when their value is at a maximum.

Thanks for the advise guys, I decided to list them, one at a time and see what happens. Two of the three are low pop in PSA 9 to boot, will be very interesting to see what happens. If they fall on their face, I will have lost out on a couple of very nice offers from board members who want to trade.

    Thanks! image

  • You won't go wrong auctioning off low pop 78 BB PSA 10s. The competition for the #1 spot in the registry has been interesting. Don't list them all at once so you give the buyers time to reload their wallets between auctions.

I was in the same situation and traded the 10s away to other 78 set collectors. Good luck.

Thanks, I am in this 78 set for the long haul. I need to up my percentage. I like the 10's in my registry but adding more 9's is the better route. More than a few offered to trade but I need to learn what kind of value low pop 10's can bring. Especially ones that are low pop in PSA 9 also. I received some excellent trade offers!
