2004 Westward Journey Nickels

I was wondering what the collective opinion is of the 2004 Keelboat and Peace Medal Jefferson Nickels. I recently bought an original mint roll of each, at a slight premium, about $12 a roll. My question is am I better of keeping them in original unopened mint rolls, for a long time, for future generations I mean. Or is it worth while to break them in search a few Gems worth getting slabbed. I didn't buy them to make money, I bout them for a bit of history, but wonder which is likely to be a better proposition???? Thoughts?

  • Generally they come not so nice in the mint rolls so I would keep them intact.
  • intact - there's nothing but probably, trash inside (no offense to you). These nickels were not the best coins ever done by the mint.

ill second that...they are the last of the last for quality...leave them in the rolls....
I'd rather be driving a titleist

  • $12 a roll is a "slight" premium? Were they proof rolls? image

Definitely keep them rolled as it is an almost 99% certainty that the contents were used as grease sweep at the mint before being rolled up!

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!
