Chances of winning:
Coin #1: 10% - Won
Coin #2: 25% - Won
Coin #3: 5% - Won
Coin #4: 50% - Won
Coin #5: 25% - Won
Coin #6: 50% - Won
Coin #7: 0.1% - Won (!!)
Coin #8: 20% - Won
Coin #9: 60% - Won

Overall, I didn't see really good prices for the coins except the ones I wanted of course. That's either a really good thing or a bad one. Anyway, I'm poor now. No competition from me on ebay for the foreseeable future! Hoo boy!image

I'll post the coins themselves a little later once my winnings are confirmed and my blood pressure falls. Broke down as follows: MS66 (5), MS65(3) and MS64 (1).

Oh yeah, I believe I lost one and won one, but it's not confirmed as of yet. image
  • Tom, you must have both pockets stuffed full of rabbit's feet! I got picked off by floor bidders on all I led but one or two (most I bid on were raw coins). There were some bargains on the early stuff but my perception was that it would go high. Congrats on your wins. image
  • I got the only one I bid on. Decided I needed an "H" mint 1/2d in the set. This one is graded at MS63 and from that "Wayne Newton Palmer" collection!! image

I'm happy with it, I know it is not the earlier variety, but it will still go nice with the young head crown I have... Thanks!

  • I tracked about 20 coins, of the 10 that have been auctioned they sold ZERO image I wonder if the reserves were a mite too high ?
I'd rather be lucky than good.

Congrats to those that were successful bidders...image:

  • I won 60% of what I bid on - and I thought I bid a bit high for those. But of those I did not win - I thought they went for crazy money.

Now of those I tracked - roughly 50% did not sell. And I thought they had crazy money bids on 'em already image

Honestly guys - a yr, even 6 months ago - such things didn't happen.
    knowledge ........ share it
  • I picked up this one in the Post Auction Sale.

Well, I went 4 for 13 including the Pittman example of Canada 1871 25c, two high grade 10c, and a nice looking 1948 half.

Got blown out of the water on a couple, and missed the remainder by 1 to 3 bid increments.

I was tracking all of the Canadian lots (around 140 or so), kept a note pad on what I thought they would sell for, then started crossing off lots that exceeded what my max bid would have been. That left 13 lots. Red cents were on fire! As Bosox can attest to.

I think one could expect to see a bunch of these coins in dealers' cases at NYINC this weekend.

Heritage had an amazing offering of bronze coins from (British) Cyprus in early September, from the same W.P. collection, the kind that sees the light of day every 7-8 years or so. Almost all dates and denominations were included,in unc or BU. Unfortunately I didn't win any of these lots back then ,although I was aware of the auction, but being on summer holidays I had my priorities upside down at the time.I'll probably regret this in my old age.

Indeed, Canada large cents in red were hot, hot, hot. I bid what GDJMSP called "crazy money" on the 1887 (PCGS MS-66) and lost. Won a few others though.
