Doubling on a 1952 Lincoln Cent????? Weird.....

Just wondering if anyone on the board has ever seen or heard of doubling on a 1952 Lincoln? I just recently came across a bunch of raw 40' & 50' Lincolns (mostly grading MS 64 to MS 66) and this one popped up. It appears that there is some sort of damage to the rim of the coin (below his chest on the obverse and about 1 o'clock on the reverse). After looking at my photograph, I noticed some fairly significant doubling on the "9"....and possibly some on the "5".

Anyone know much about varieities???? Thanks in advance for your input...

According to CONECA, what you have is not known. Perhaps just some strike doubling image

If you can do a close up of the date,we could tell better.

  • When (if) Chuck D. sees this, he may be able to offer some expertise. Given the pics you posted, I'd say it looks like strike doubling, and not a DDO. It is a nice strike doubling though!

Note the short "tail" on the "5" - a nice variation in the '52's.

  • I can't comment on the doubling, but looks to have a rim clip at 5:30
