Results of 1974 PSA 10 sales

Last month I posted that I had received five 1974 baseball PSA 10s back from my November-December PSA set registry special order. My debate was whether to sell'em or keep'em. Most who posted rercommended selling, which is what I did. Here are the results:

1974 Topps #152 Oscar Gamble PSA 10 1/1 $300
1974 Topps #329 Rich Motrales PSA 10 1/2 $336
1974 Topps #343 Kansas City Royals PSA 10 1/2 $250
1974 Topps #380 Bud Harrelson PSA 10 1/1 $325
1974 Topps #626 Pittsburgh Pirates PSA 10 1/1 $325

I am glad I sold. There is a much stronger market for PSA 10s than I imagined.

    Rich;

Very nice return! Did you sell them on eBay? If so, did one big roller take them all or did they go to different buyers?

Not to get in the way of Rich's answer, but I got curious and looked.

The Morales had 8 bids and spirited bidding right around the closing price. The other 4 went to people who hit Buy-It-Now (3 to the same guy and the other to the winner of the Morales). The Morales closed on 1/9, the rest were right around the end of the year.

Makes me think they might have gone for even more without the Buy-It-Now.

Congratulations Rich on the prices! I don't hear much about guys collecting the '74s.

Yes, I did put a Buy-It-Now on the cards, set at what I thought was a fair price. I might have underestimated their value, as the one that didn't sell at the B-I-N sold later for much more than the B-I-N price I had set. Still I am very pleased with the results.
  • The guy who bought most of your 10's is the #1 guy on the registry for 1974's.

Wow thats great, good for you image

I have been on the fence about my three 1 of 1 PSA 10's in 1978 Topps I just got back. Not that they would command 1974 kind of cash, but still.

  • >>1974 #1 set

...who wants to stay # 1 apparently.

Looks like most of the 1967 PSA 9s go to the guy with a user id
like member<long series of numbers> . (Or the ones that he doesn't need go to Dr. BXB)
Wonder if the former will ever do a set registry entry.. Maybe he's the one with the
9.0x rating but only 79% complete who isn't sharing his list with us.

Back to the original thread; nice going. that's 3 more PSA 10's that I've ever had total.

1967and 1973 Topps baseball wantlists (any condition) welcome. Once had the #14 ATF 1967 set. Yet another collector like skylaneflyer, gimel1 who made it to the completion of 1967 only to need the money more than the company of 609 close friends.
Looking for oddball Norm Cash and Cleon Jones stuff, and 1956 team cards

PSA Rich , the joys of collecting in the modern era , you sold 5 cards that frobably had little cost to you and now you can buy 2-3 nm/mint sets

You are absolutely right, Pack Collector. I had about $1.50 into the cards and $25 into the grading so my profit minus ebay fees was about $1,500. If I didn't have kids in college (my ebay sales go to tuition), I probably would pick up a nice PSA 9 Mantle and consider it a great trade (like 5 1974 commons for a 1968 PSA 9 Mantle). I continue to thank PSA, the Set Registry, and ebay for making card collecting a joyous experience.

I bought 3,000-4,000 cards from 1974 vending boxes 4-5 years ago. Actually when I think about it, I paid about 15% book (7.5 cents per card), but then again many were thrown out due to miscuts, creases, etc. Over the last three years I have had about 500 of them graded, getting over 90% 9s/10s. These of course were selected carefully. I believe I have received sixteen 10s, all of which I sold on ebay. It turned out to be a great investment. My 1974 set registry is at a little less than 50% with a 9 GPA. I have sent almost all of these cards in to PSA to be graded, so my cost to build my 1974 set has been minimal.
  • I bought some of the cards ungraded from psarich and pulled 5 psa 10's out of the 200 I submitted.
