Looks like a huge VAM score on the West Coast - Photos added

Logan McKenchie reported last night he picked up an ultra-rare 1889 VAM-23A ('IN' neck clash)...grading AU55/58.

I think this is only the second one ever discovered. There's a photo in the back of the 1997 VAM Book of the original. Congrats to Logan (vamsandmore on eBay). He's promised scans later today, as he will not be at FUN apparently.

Edited to correct year.

I talked to a guy Sunday who Logan showed the coin to... it's a problem-free AU+ coin and he says it's the real deal.

If my count is correct, this is example #3. One is a VF-ish problem coin that sold in 2004 back east and the other is a VF with no problems.
    When in doubt, don't.

I have a VAM 23 that is AU50. When was the 23A discovered and am I correct in assuming that it has the 80/79 overdate?

edited to add: I misread the post thinking the Morgan in question was 1880 not 1889.

Leroy Van Allen called this the "find of the decade" when discovered in the 1990's. It's an awesome die clash. There's another, an 1880 VAM-32A, which has the 'IN' clash ALMOST as ridiculous as this one. But this one is the king!

    Logan has sent the photos...enjoy:

Sorry, my mistake. It's an 1889-VAM-23A, not 1880. The 1880 clash vam is 32A, so it's confusing.

Thanks for the photo. I can see that's kind of hard to miss. Even a non-VAMmer should realize there's something special about a coin like that!

Thanks for sharing Jack (and thank Logan McKechnie).
