OT--Having trouble with my computer/browser...

...so I just thought I'd let you know because until I get a chance to reformat my computer I probably won't be able to read PMs and put smileys on my posts, etc. It seems that my internet browser won't let me click on most of the little buttons on websites. A temporary problem I hope, but as I said, sorry that I can't get to my PMs.

That is not a major problem jester. If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer ,you can just reload that part and not reformat and lose everything.
Try using Firefox 1.0 for your brouser, it is faster and no pop ups,,,,but it does occationally come to a site that it will not open , and IE is needed. You can have both on your puter and use them interchangablyimage

Thanks for the tips, guys. I know reformating is a last resort. While I was on vacation over Christmas, a friend who was looking after my apartment and cats apparantly contracted some vicious bugs, and after running several debugging programs (AD-Aware SE and MKS VIR), which eliminated most of them, another computer friend of mine and I also searched on the web to find directions to remove what was left. Apparantly the computer is not clean and Opera, which I've been using, has just broken down so I'm using IE again, and I know it will break down soon. I'd been running a firewall named Zone Alarm. I don't know what else to do to free myself of the infections. I'll keep you updated.

Next time, unplug your HD and take it with you.

Wybrit, LOL!! No, he's gone thankfully.

Hi Mac! I think you give sage advice. Usually a different girlfriend of mine watches the cats, but this time this young college friend begged me to let him, so I consented. He said afterwards that he had absolutely not gone to any porn sites, and said the computer broke down after he played a bootleg DVD (and the firewall asked if he wanted to download some software to play the DVD, and his girlfriend said "yes"). I'm not sure if I should believe him or not; I suppose the possibility exists that DVDs can be so infected but in any case I did find multiple telephone speed-dialers and other porn software in my system files.

  • I and a friend of mine had some computer problems when running zone alarm. I now use Norton Internet Security with a firewall and Norton Antivirus, and
a few different spyware programs. I hope you are able to fix all the puter problems image

Edit to add,,, If you want to see where he went on your puter, check your history list.
