Heritage internet bidding is closed

Well, by tomorrow I will find out if I'm disappointed or poor. I have nine winning internet bids.

Barring a miracle, I will be crushed on one of the coins - I put in a very low winning bid as a "just for the heckuva it."

The others will just depend on the mood of the floor. If a floor bidder wins, though, he/she will have to pay very dearly to get these particular coins!!

Chances of winning:
Coin #1: 10%
Coin #2: 25%
Coin #3: 5%
Coin #4: 50%
Coin #5: 25%
Coin #6: 50%
Coin #7: 0.1%
Coin #8: 20%
Coin #9: 60%

Does this mean I won? Or have the floor bids not been tallied yet?

If I did win, did I get it for $253 including buyer fee?

Session one was today, so floor bidding is closed. Congratulations, Shiroh!

Sessions two and three are Monday.

It sold for $220 plus the 15% = $253. If you bid $220 or more you won. Go to "My Heritage" "My Bids". If you won it, it should show as a green bid and as part of your invoice total.

  • Well, I'm ahead on eight going into the floor bidding but am only confident that three will hold up. On the bright side I'll always have a second chance when I make NENum an offer that was only 2X my original bid. image

The King Farouk piece closed at $431,250.00 on the 'net. Did anybody watch that one live?

    Good luck Wybrit.

Shiro, I think you won it at $253 including the juice.

I bid on 13 lots and won 4 (much to my surprise) including the Pittman example of a Canada 1871 25c. image

Can hardly wait to see 'em.

Thanks for the wishes for luck from 1960NYG and Bosox. Congratulations on your wins.

Good luck, agraded. I doubt that I'll have the second chance at NEN for what I am after...

You too, Tom. Did you happen to see the Atlas rocket that went into orbit that looked something like a MS66 1870 Shilling??? As I recall you bought two very nice slabbed examples on Ebay for pocket change a while back. No please don't fill in the blanks for me, I'm in a delicate emotional state right now. image

    Good luck Terry.

I will reveal my lot numbers after the auction. I have a heavy paranoia for those forum lurkers and MacCrimmons.imageimage

    You lucky dawg!

It looks like I got the British Honduras 50 cent piece for only 170% of Krause. image I know I spent "too much," but I hardly get to see these above F/VF.

    Good luck, all!

    Good luck, all!

I only have two bids; my max on one is at a multiple of about 3.3x to Spink. My odds are about 50/50 of winning that one. Never fear, this just sets the stage for later in 2005!! imageimageimage

Not to worry, I have a hefty 4th quarter payment due on the 15th....so I held back, sort of!! image

    $950!!! (Almost $1,100 with BP)imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage

You have a good memory, except that they were both raw. I slabbed the one and it went off to England and subsequently sold for a heckuva lot more on that slabbed coins site (wish I had sold it at that price!). The other one is still in the safety deposit box and remains raw. Neither is an MS66, though.

I used the same drastic measure on one piece...we will probably both get blown out. imageimage

Ya think that might really be a tough date in uber gem? image
  • wybritwybrit Posts: 6,967 ✭✭✭
I think the catalogues need to realize that if it is true! They're nowhere in the ballpark of $950 or whatever it will end up at.

  • Ya think that might really be a tough date in uber gem?

absolutely, and it seems like more than a few know it! One of the first coinz I sold on Ebay was a nice mid level AU 1870 Shilling and it brought over $300. Been on the scout for them ever since but didn't want two so I didn't try for the ones Tom won. Gee what a nice guy. image

If they are nice, James will scoop them up, but then again he has more and more UK competition coming to the fore.....and yes, I kicked one of my top bids by $100 at the end, but I doubt it will suffice. However, not being able to really view the coin in person makes me hesitant to bid anymore. I await greener pastures...... image

<< <i> I think the catalogues need to realize that if it is true! >>

    Yea, verily!
My biggest problem is that Spink is held up to be the defacto guide, yet they are in the biz of selling coins. image

For now, stick to the prices realized in the past year (and 2005) for 65 and up material to deliniate the good from the extremely good.

IMO, using one 'catch-all' pricing grade for Unc. will no longer cut the mustard (Coleman's) in the future.
  • wybritwybrit Posts: 6,967 ✭✭✭
I agree, Mac. Spink and others at least need to define pricing points for low-end UNC, choice UNC and gem UNC. Collector's Coins guide at least has UNC and BU prices, but they are for the most part nowhere near where the choice and gem pricing points are.

The same holds true for gem Canadian. CCN Trends on a 1887 cent in MS-65 Red is $2,500CA, or about $2,100US. You might figure an MS-66 to go at 2 to 3 times the 65 price. Heritage Lot #21361 in MS-66 Red just brought $13,225US, or 6.4 times the MS-65 Trends price.

Mac/Tom good point...even if they just added BU to the Unc. grade it would show a significant price spread. And Spink should be up for it as everyone would have to go out and buy the book with the new pricing. image
  • I have 8 surviving bids from the internet auction, will see what happens on the floor today....
