Pulled this from a proof set I got in yesterday:

I doubt it would pass muster at a reputable TPG, but I still think it's pretty damned cool! image

Wow! Do you think it would make any difference to the TPG if you sent it in in the cello, or do they remove it before the graders would see it?

I've heard varying reports on that. Some say that it's removed by the receiving department before it gets to the graders, some say not. Wouldn't matter in this case anyway, though. This set was in a Whitman holder.

That's one neat coin! I got one that was wild purple once. I sent it in in mint cello and it slabbed like 67RB or something. Photo attached.

Cool coin, Russ! I'll bet it would get through NGC.

It might. They've graded a couple other wild ones for me.

That coin looks like it's been painted by the same guys that do the bizarre paint jobs on mini trucks. image
  • Back off the photoshop !

    Kidding.

    That thing is wild !

I have a 57 at PCGS like that now.

I have one as well, with a full-color obverse but only a crescent-purple reverse. Mine is also a 1961. Maybe there was some specific problem they had sealing the packs that year?

Unfortunately, mine had some sort of film on the obverse. I couldn't see it until I got it out of the cello and held it at an angle. I sent it to NGC anyway as part of a larger submission, and it came back "environmental damage". Bummer. I'm going to try some acetone and see if the film comes off without taking the color with it. I figure the coin is worth approximately nothing (well, <$5) the way it is now, so I have little to lose.
