George IV Farthings

I came across an 1823 farthing that has the I instead of the 1. Spink lists a fairly significant premium for this... is this coin that highly sought after? Any thoughts or experience with this?

  • Hi,
Yes it is a good find.
It is often listed as Roman 1 variety -that is I -serifs top and bottom.
Colin Cooke says that it is 1 over an inverted 1.
    Price difference.
    Normal 1823 GVF £10
    Roman I GVF £75

Hope this helps - I'm going to the Midlands coin fair now!
