1955 - Bugs Bunny?

Still searching through a lot of coins from an American/Norwegian estate. Lots of coins left in Norway from 1948-1981 and unsearched until October 2004. Need help with this one. Can this be a Bugs Bunny?

Thank you.

The clarity and quality of the photos is great - look in the owner's guide for "white balance" and play with that a bit to get the color more true.

  • Can someone point out why it's called a bugs bunny? Thank you.

Something with the dies make his teeth look like they stick out like bugs bunny....image

Think I heard once that the dies were clasded. Causing the buck teeth appearance of the coins. That coin also appears to be Full Bell Lined to me.

    Bergom,

The Bugs Bunny variety happened when the obverse and reverse dies clashed together. An impression of the reverse's eagle's wing was left over Franklin's mouth, whjich gave the impression of buck teeth. There is a website on it somewhere, which shows an overlay of obverse on reverse, but I do not know which website it is right now.

Other well known varieties of the type are on 1948 and 1951 coins.

The coin you have seems to be of good quality. Congratulations on the find.

What part of Norway are you from?

  • Hi all,

Thank you for all your help.

I know I should have introduced myself earlier on this forum, and I am sorry about that. Sort of newbie, you can say.

A grand uncle of my wife died in Buffalo County, Wisconsin in January 2004. He had some belongings left in Norway. In his estate there was couple of coins (I guess 2-3000 or more). No bombs as far as I can see now, but I don't know yet. There is still many nice coins, and I am working with this almost every day now. I will take pictures and ask you when I am going through the collection.
Also some blue coin sets, like Benjamin Franklin - Half Dollar - Collection 1948 to 1963, and a lot of other sets. Many Mint and Proof sets from the early 60's.

This heirloom (the coin collection) was given to a local church in Buffalo County, and will be sold during this year I guess.
If there is some interest, please post to my email-address.

I am living in the east central part of Norway, close to Oslo - the capitol.

Nice shooting. I have a Sony DSC F828. Can you shoot in RAW mode? The white balance certainly corrects the color. Are you using the an auto white or setting the white balance. I bump my resolution to 8M and run in ISO 800 With the format set to RAW. before I shoot the first shot I slip a piece of white paper in view and set the Wb. Then its a matter of correcting on download. What do you think of the sony formatter software?
