If one of the grading services would take professional pics of your coin which you could pull up ....for example if you wanted to sell it using ebay....how great would that be.....just type in the serial number and the pics would appear.......that would swing me to one or the other grading services........on my wish list ........what do you think???

  • I think it's an excellent idea! There is no better time to take a photo,
than when the coin is raw. It also shouldn't slow them down any,
since the backlog is with graders - it should be relatively easy to hire
    someone to do great photos.

    Yeah,

I have been seriously considering providing photograph services via WWW delivery. Go to the show take the pics and give them to the customer on a USB key and post to a web site. They want to link to them there they are. What would you pay for this?

Why don't we let someone else make some money?

The problem is that every company that mass produces photographs just doesn't take very good ones.

If you want to make money, invent a fool-proof mass production method of coin photography.

NGC does "photo proof" for high end pictures $$$$$$$... They also do internet shots for $3... I have never paid for it so I don't know the quality. I'm too busy beating myself to death trying to learn to do it myself with my new Panasonic Lumix, just can't get the lighting right. I bought some GE "Reveal" light bulbs tonight to try...

NGC offers it every time I submit. I guess I don't love it because I've never taken them up on their most generous offer.

NGC's Photo Proofs are generally terrible pictures. The imaging equipment 'burns thru' any toning to show the detail leaving the coin almost unrecognizable. I purchased about two dozen Proofs of the Share Collection and only two or three were anywhere close to the actual coin. I was terribly dissapointed.

They should hire Shylock to do their imaging. Not that's worth paying for! image

I have seen some of the internet pic's taken by NGC, and thier okay, but truthfully, I have seen better pics taken by the forum members here.

At the ANA show last year, thier was a guy who came buy offering to take pic's of some higher end stuff and would provide digital images. I didnt have any done, but one of the dealers that we were sharing a table with had some pic's taken of some high end stuff including a few early colonial pieces, and spectacular toned examples, and they came out very nice. He brought the images back the next day on a disk, and also had his laptop to show how the images would look.

I dont remember his name, but could get the individual;s name trhu a dealer contact? My guess, is he will be a major shows, so he may come to FUN>

There were a number of folks offering this service here in the past. The PUG FC57Coins is one and I know that there was at least one other quite sometime back. Not sure that if a coin got cracked out that PCGS would automatically reholder it at the same grade based solely on a pic; even theirs. Would defeat a lot of the purpose if they wouldn't.
