Sold an item for $500 on EBAY. Buyer paid with Paypal. Now he wants a refund, which I will give on return of my card. Buyer insists on refund before returning my card and has asked Paypal to give it to him. Who's right here?? What will Paypal do??

From Paypal....The buyer has 10 calendar days to provide proof that he shipped the item back to you. PayPal will issue a refund from your account once the shipping company used can provide confirmation of delivery.

Also on an item of over 250.00 Delivery Confirmation is not enough for Paypal they require signature confirmation.
Exactly, or if they damage the card for spite.
Paypal says the item "Must be returned in its original condition", but I don't get the feeling they'll do much if I claim it came back damaged.
99.5% of my Paypal sales [I've had over a 1,000] have been great, but it's the 4 or 5 bad ones that give me heartburn. I'm tempted to exclude low feedback buyers [this guy was a 4] or not use Paypal, but that will hurt sales in the long run.

FWIW, I would never bid on your auctions in that case. I like PayPal, as a buyer, especially for the higher dollar items I purchase. I would hesitate more to send a large check to someone I have never done business with before than to take a chance with them via PayPal. It does stink how it appears that sometimes an occasional buyer can try to manipulate the system, but overall PayPal is a must for me both as a buyer and a seller.
According to my bank if you give them the account numbers there is notheing they can do to stop Paypal from going in and taking the money, it was my bank that suggested opening up another account just for Paypal use to me.
ctsoxfan- I agree with you it is a tough decision, but IMHO it is just as easy if not easier for a seller to fraud a buyer using Paypal. With mailing a large payment to someone you know you are getting a mailing address that that person will have access to, plus you also usually get their real name. With Paypal both of those can be mainipulated by the seller to where the buyer is blind as to who they are dealing with.
The buyer fraud though on Paypal is starting to get out of hand even Paypal admits most of its problems are from fraudlent buyers. This is especially true on large transactions, just like situations described above. Buyer claims an Item not as described complaint with Paypal, buyer has XX days to return item to seller and be able to prove it was recieved. Buyer sends back empty envelope with Delivery Confirmation on it. He shows Paypal seller recieved item Paypal refunds buyer. Then if the seller tries to seek other forms of legal action buyer still has proof the item was sent and delivered it then becomes a he said she said battle that usually do not go in the plaintiffs favor in court. So the seller is out the money and the item and has very little legal recourse.
Many sellers on Ebay who are Pro-Paypal are starting to set a maximum on the amount they will accept through Paypal.
