I just got this e-mail, alledgedly from eBay, with a subject message: "TKO Notice: Urgent Safeharbor Department notice". The body of the e-mail message was as follows (cut & pasted below):

Is this some kind of scam, or bogus message?? I got something SIMILAR to this a while back from a phony PayPal impersonator. Has anyone else gotten anything from eBay like this? I just tried to call eBay to ask about it, but their customer service dept. is closed for the day, which further arouses my suspicions.

  • Scam city.
Several threads have discussed how to tell but never, ever click on a link to get there.

Steve, Just forward it to spoof@ebay.com . They'll email you veryifying it's a "phishing" scam. Any mail from Ebay (or Paypal) will address you by name. They also will never ask for any password or personal information in their emails.

Every single eBay or paypal scam is always easy to spot by the salutation.

If it doesn't say "dear (your name)" it is a scam.

If you look at every single post that has ever been asked here about the scams, it is always the same.

No need to look past the salutation.

I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • Thanks guys. I rather expected this was some kind of prank. I went to the eBay home page, and found the part that said to forward it to the spoof@ebay.com (which i did). It was even more bizarre that this same thing happened to me recently with a bogus PayPal--which really LOOKED real! Luckily i did NOT answer the questions in the link, which asked such personal questions as my userid and password!!
