1878-CC Morgan- how low do you go?

How much damage can a coin have before the price isn't low enough? I just got this 1878-CC. Someone carved a name on the coin.

I like the look of the coin, but a def. BB. I would pay about 40ish for it, if thats what your asking. More is acceptable if its a coin you like.

I paid $45. Thought it was too much at the time, but I need to get CC's when I can. Wasn't sure if anyone had a "rule of thumb" for scratched or damaged coins. I've heard 1/3 the normal value is a fair price... but I guess it depends on the severity of the damage.

Prob. slightly less than what you payed but if you like who cares...I think its a nice looking worn carson city!

You've probably heard of this already but with coins like this one, if you carry it around in with your pocket change a while, it should take some of the hard edges off the graffiti, make it not so noticeable.
