Question about the value of a 1970 DCAM Kennedy.

Happy new year forumites.

I have not been posting much lately, but I do have a question about a recent cherry pick of mine.

I picked up a 1970 Proof Set for $12.00 last month. The half had lots of haze on it, but underneath the haze it screams DCAM. I cracked the set open pulled out the half and had a dealer friend give the half a bath.

As I suspected, the half is a killer DCAM, with deep, deep mirrors and two sided, even, thick, unbroken frost. It has a few minor ticks, but nothing which is noticeable. My opinion of its grade would be at least 67DCAM and who knows maybe 68DCAM or even 69DCAM.

My question to you (particularly Russ) is what are 1970 Proof 67, 68 and 69 DCAM JFK halves selling for in today's market. Thanks in advance, Sanction II.

    67DCAM - $30
    68DCAM - $60 to $70
    69DCAM - $400 +

Thank you Russ, and happy 2005.

Keep posting on your CAM/DCAM Kennedies and other coins.

While on the subject, this one is on the way to PCGS in what I'll generously call a "learning" submission. I know the numerical grade is impossible to determine from my pics, but could it go DCAM?

Personally, I think I just spent $14 on a nice coaster. But I'll learn something.

That one's a cusper. It has the mirrors, but the frost may not be white enough.

    Back again.

I am looking at the 1970 proof half I discussed in my opening thread/post. Though seanq's picture of his 1970 is not the best, I venture to say that the frost on mine is much whiter, thicker and unbroken. Mine also has deep black mirrors.

Thus according to Russ's "cusper" evaluation of seanq's pictured 1970, I would have to say mine is a DCAM.

One of these days I will have to breakdown and get a digital camera (Santa did not bring me one, boo hoo) and start posting pics (when I do, I think I will lay out all of my cameo Frankies and Kennedies on a black table top under good lighting, take a picture of the whole lot and post it as my first picture).

One of these days I will also have to join a TPGS and start submitting coins for grading. In that way I can feel the agony (BB and grades 2-3 points lower than my "opinion") and the ecstasy ("Cha-Ching") felt by all of you who submit coins for grading.

    SanctionII,

I'm using a Fuji A320 that cost less than $150 brand new. There's an upgraded version out now, the A340, that costs less than $200. Russ is using a digital camera that is even older and less expensive. The only thing keeping me from taking better pictures is a lack of time to experiment with settings and lighting, the camera is well up to the task. Here's what it can do when set up properly.

Search the forums and you will find many threads with suggestions for cameras to fit any budget. From your other posts it sounds like you have one helluva collection, I for one would like to start seeing it. image

Thanks, Marty! Now can you get a PCGS 69DCAM holder around it for me, too?

Russ, your pictured 1970 looks just like the one I have talked about in this thread. Your's is awsome. What do you opine the grade to be?

Wish I had all 8 of the Kennedy Silver Short Set pieces that look like your 1970 (I have a 68 and a 64 non AH that look like your 1970 but the others no; but my 69 has the unique look [like the frost is artificially applied so thick it looks like powder] that some 69 DCAMS have).

Seanq, I am tempted to go out and pick up a digital camera, even if I have to spring for it myself. I also would like to post pics of my some of the coins in my collection as much as you would like to see them. My birthday is next month. If I do not get a camera for my birthday I will take the plunge. Seanq, I also like the coins you picture.
