A Joke or Not? I Have No Idea

I am not a Collector yet. I was going through some coins from my Mother-in-Law's estate and found two coins that are Mercury Dime on one side and Wheat cent on the other. The date and mint mark on the Dime is 1942S. The coins seem to rather thin almost as if they were one at some time. I have seen coins that were run through some type of machine that ovals them and inprints the City or Attraction name, but I have never seen this before. Does anybody have any knowledge about these coins?

Same here.
In the meantime, look at eh edges to see if you see a seam.
Also, drop the coin on the table from a few inches up. Drop a trustworthy coin from the same distance.
If you questionable coin was real, one diagnostic is to see if it "rings" properly (like the unquestionable coin.
I've seen a lot of coins that were two have of two differant coins that both had one face ground down, and then glued together.

Your coins are aftermarket novelties, not a genuine Mint product.
