Did Heritage space out and forget to activate the Bullet Sale?

I have been waiting for the Bullet sale at Heritage to start and today was supposed to be the day. It is not available for bidding yet. Did they space this one out?

  • Yeah, I've been waiting too. You can still browse the Bullet lots from the link for upcoming auctions...

It would appear that Heritage has its hands VERY full these days... perhaps too full to remember the Bullet sale.
    When in doubt, don't.

I heard they just got another $12 million in coins for the bullet sale. Maybe that's the reason for the delay?

Sorry, just kidding. Move on now. image

    I've been waiting myself.

  • May I ask a question here with no intent to hijack the thread, but what is a "bullet" sale? I've seen this on Heritage's auction archives but I don't know what it means. Thanks, in advance, for enlightening me.

It's an internet only sale, usually held in conjunction with one of their "Signature" sales. I think lot viewing takes place with the signature sale lots...but you can only bid online. Usually contains lower grade/profile/rarity coins....but higher grade/profile/rarity than their "normal" internet auctions.

  • TommyType - Thanks, I think....So the "bullet" is internet only without being able to see the coins in hand, but the Signiture sale is internet bidding only but you can see the coins in-hand if you're on site?

Yes - clear as mud! image

Well, except that the Signature sale is really a LIVE auction. They existed LONG before the internet, and were intended to be live, on the floor, raise your hand, bidding auctions. The internet bidding part is just a chance for us little guys to get in on the action, usually without the benefit of seeing the coins in person.

(I think I'm making this too hard).

    Three types of Heritage auctions:

    1) "Exclusively Internet": All bidding is on the internet, there is no lot viewing, usually low to mid grade coins.

    2) "Bullet Sale": Live viewing of the lots at some specified location, bidding only on the internet, higher grade coins.

    3) "Signature Sale": A live auction, with full lot viewing for those who attend. Also has pre-bidding on the internet. This is the "Big Ticket Item" auction with the big rarity, high value coins.

  • Thanks TT - I now DO understand! Best of luck on your Type Set! I am doing a quasi-Type Set in that I'll buy some odd-ball US coin that pleases my eye, even though I'm not trying to build a set or anything. Tuesday, I saw an 1848 Large Cent in AU at a local shop that I had to have! It's now mine! What I'll do with it, I'll never know, but I like it!

This sale was supposed to start yesterday but still no bidding platform or info. on when the sale ends?

WOW, there are so many coins being dumped into the market at once even the big boys can't keep up. So what does this mean?

Actually, they have added a 4th type of aution...Continuous Internet Auction. From what I can tell, it is the same thing as their Exclusively Internet Auctions but instead of having a 10:00pm time of closing, the time "drifts" with each lot just like a live auction. These Continuous Internet Auctions do not have lot viewing and are internet only.

As far as the Signiture/Bullet sales, they try to keep Signiture sale items above $500. Items they expect to sell below that, they try to put into the bullet sale. That is how it was described to me when I consigned.
