Can't really tell much with the 81-S, but the 78-S looks like a beauty. Those are both old ANACS slabs, and I have found the grading of coins in those slabs to be right on.

I was able to get this one the other day for $25. It's a nice addition to my 1880 collection. Looks better than the pictures would indicate. VERY nice cartwheel lustre on it, and only a few nicks and dings on it. Very nice strike with a lot of detail on it. Coin is now stored in an Airtite holder, and since it's a real pain in the butt to get it out of the holder, I really can't get any better pictures of it.

I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.

Can we get a picture of the engraved wing on the 1878-S? Inquiring minds want to know (what VAM it is). image

    Nice coins!

  • I am glad someone bought that 78-S......I watched it a few times and it didn't sell. It look like a nice coin and the price was right, but it didn't have enough toning for me and the pictures weren't the best. I agree with the others that it should like nice in hand.

They are both nice looking Morgans. I have a feeling the 81 S will look much better in hand. I'd like to see an update when you get them. image

Yeah K6AZ, I saw that 1882 dollar and was watching it... I was going to bid on it but had other plans and couldn't. When I saw who won the auction I was glad it was you who won it.

The pictures were taken under flourescent lighting (the blue tint) so it will be interesting to see what it looks like. I'll post pictures when I get it.
