Ideas for collecting Large Cents wanted

I have taken an interest in Large Cents recently. And was wondering about different ways of collecting these. For example, do you only collect the Large Cents from a certain year, say 1837 on? My resources are not that I can collect high grade examples; plus I like the look of nice circulated coins, which give them character. So I am thinking about a set of Large Cents from the mid 1830's to 1857 all in the range of F-12.
Do you have any ideas of storage? Or display ideas? Thought about a Dansco album, but the Large Cent album start 1816, and I am only thinking about collecting the final 20 years.
Obviously, to each their own. Just thought I would see how others do it, to see if I may like something someone else is doing.

start w/ the late-dates, 1844 - 1857 in mid-grades BY DATE. then, progress to the redbook varieties, ie. about a handful of add'l coins.
after you complete this, you will have acquired a good practical knowledge to begin working BACKWARDS through the series, & it limits your financial exposure.
great question!!!

Great answer/suggestion.
I would do what Karl says.
I have a small circulated large cent collection, and I keep them in acid-free paper envelopes. These are coins that I actually can touch!
