Finally won one of these "Winged Liberty Coins".

Three weeks of bidding on different coins finally netted one. What did I miss though on this coin ? It went cheap compared to the others I have bid on. This is the sellers picture. I just cropped it and enlarged it some.

Looks like a nice coin - there might be some attempted cleaning or dip based on the luster break on the left side of the obverse. Share a picture when you have it in hand.

I can't say that I'm familiar with these, but it looks good to me.

The seller in the description said "some points of oxidation". I see something by the date and a spot on the other side but it does not look like corrsion (SP) that could pit the coin. Other examples that were for sale looked much worse than this one. Maybe its light and they were being real honest.

Hopefully it will get here quicker than the coin won three weeks ago that still has not shown up.

  • You will finmd that happening on many Darkside coins. I think alot of it has to do with the amount of collectors. You will often see a run of a certain coin and they will be gobbled up quickly. Then a few more come up and the interest has waned.

There is definitely a similarity between that and the "other" Winged Liberty coin...

I was thinking the toning looked weird for an aluminum coin, then I noticed the word "essai" just above the date. It appears you snagged a rare piedfort version of the coin. image
