1893 Morgan

I am trying to learn. This coin recently sold on E-bay for $2157. "1893-S Morgan Silver Dollar "Key" nice coin"--Ebay Item 3949452989, seller wolves_stamps. I don't know how to link it. The picture showed a pretty well worn coin but nice otherwise.

The PCGS price guide lists it in VF condition as worth $5650.

My question is: did this buyer get a coin worth $3000 more than he paid? I would like to know if one can bid this high with impunity; is the price guide a good guide; how can a coin valued at $5650 go this cheaply; or, how can a Morgan dollar be worth $5650 in the first place?

Thanks--Pups

First off,the coin is not a VF coin, also ,PCGS price guide is high.

There are many Morgan Dollars worth more then $5650.

  • The coin isn't VF . Here is a pic of mine in F15.

the ebay coin is a decent vg, though it appears to have been washed. the closing price seems reasonable.
