Selling Raw Vintage . . . Any advice?

Just received roughly 1500-2000 '64 and '66 Topps baseball cards along with a lot of Topps and Philadelphia football from late '50s to early- mid- 60s, including a few '65 tall boys. Fair number of stars. Probably will pull Mantles for personal collection. Condition is pretty consistent . . . Overall fairly clean, some soft corners/touches, some light to moderate creasing. None, in my opinion, worth grading. Question . . . What would be the best way to break this lot to sell on eBay.

  • From your description of the cards, is VG-EX accurate?

That's a lot of cards. You could either put each year in a lot of its own, or break up each year individually and put maybe 100-200 cards in each lot. But either way, that's a LOT of work. Since the cards are lower grade, I would opt for the easiest: putting them in bulk lots by year. But that's just me. As far as pics, I would show a few that best encapsulate the lot. Are there any minor stars or pretty much commons? Hope I've helped.

EDITED because I didn't bother reading your whole post because I have the attention span of a gnat. I'd sell the star cards separately, and with a nice close-up scan to give potential buyers an accurate read on the condition.

Can I send you my late '50s to mid '60s football wantlists? I'm working on some EX or better cards for some player collections and team sets from those years.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

I guess the answer is "no". Good luck with the eBay auctions.

Here is my opinion. I have had a lot of success this way. Sell them by partial sets. First, put the cards in order. Then take the best of each card and make a partial set. Then break the set down by grade in your description (ie so many EXMT, so many EX, so many VG-EX etc.). When finish each year, then do it again with the next best cards. I know that sounds like a lot of work, but I have done really well this way. Just my thoughts.

  • If they will take it, submit them all to Mastro. Let them do the grading/advertising, selling, etc,...
