How about a follow-up show report?
Folks from the colonies might enjoy it.
The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.

    Got quoins?
  • Hi Andy,
Funny - I was just thinking that i might turn up!

    See you there.

  • Excellent news, Teg. Please do stop by my table and introduce yourself. It's always good putting faces to names. image

I take it you've been before? Were you at the December one?
  • Andy,

do you ever go to coin fairs in London? Such as the Commonwealth institute one? I've heard it's been moved elsewhere this year.

  • Hi Dimitri

I think the Commonwealth one you are referring to has moved venue to Jurys Hotel but you'd need to check on that - it's not one that I have ever been to.

The only London one I exhibit at is the London Coin Fair held at the Holiday Inn, Coram Street, Bloomsbury (the last one was in November and the next one is on 5th Feb).

    Other than that, I attend:

    Midland (second Sunday every month)
    Wakefield (last Sunday every month)
York 2-day fair (January and July each year)
and the Harrogate Coin Fair (annually - March/April time)

Will you be at the London Coin Fair this February?
  • Andy,
I have only been 4 or 5 times, last time about 6 Months ago.
As I specialize in Farthings I often don't find much to buy.
Colin Cooke tends to sell most of the best farthings - and he does not do "shows"
My recollection of people that do show :-
K.B. often have a few nice coins - but no bargains!
Dave Craddock always has coins of interest - but I get his list anyway.
Then it's potluck - not many high end farthings - and if there are I might well already have it!

If I buy anything good I'll post it here.

    Still fun though,

    See you Sunday

    Teg

  • Are the Midland Fairs held at the same venue throughout the year?
How far is it from Birmingham Airport?

Hi Tony - yes, barring any unforeseen circumstances, it should take place at the Motorcycle Museum second Sunday monthly throughout 2005.

Here's a link to the MCF website - map, directions, admission, show dates etc:

Any other questions, feel free to ask me.....can't promise I can answer them all but will certainly try! image

  • Thanks Andy,I might try to make a weekend visit later in the year ( when the weather is not so varied! ).

  • No problem Tony. Look forward to meeting up with you when you get the chance to come over.

Also hear that you'll be offline for a bit (well not be able to post anyway). image

Hope you get your new computer set up sooner rather than later or else you'll be having forum withdrawal symptoms!! image

Anyone else coming to the fair?

    Cheers

    Andy,

I wish. I was in London a month ago, so I guess I'll have to wait a little until my next trip . Thanks for the information, please keep us updated on coin fairs that you attend in England, with a follow up afterwards if possible, as Coulport suggested. I'm sure most Darksiders would be interested in that, not just the ones living in Europe.

You're welcome, Dimitri. Will certainly let you know of upcoming fairs in the UK throughout 2005. And, if not myself, then maybe TEG (or any other forum member visiting the fair) could do a write up? (Always better from a buyer's perspective I feel!) Anyway, I'll see what I can do but time is, as always, the overriding factor. Feel free to ask specific questions though and we should have the makings of a write-up!

    Cheers

    Andy

PS Anyone else coming along to MCF tomorrow?

    Andy:

Unfortunately, those of us across the Pond will not be able to attend. If possible, please consider posting a brief summary of how the Fair goes... attendance, what is selling, observations as to what is moving and what is not. I know the UK coin market has several components and to comment on all of that would be quite an undertaking... Thanks for the consideration.
