Westward Journey Set already sold out--oops not sold out

Called mint to place order and they said the set sold out. They only started selling them at 12:00 ET. Took less than an hour. Went on line and placed an order that was accepted. We'll see what happens. Maybe I'll get lucky. This set includes a proof Sacagawea, the two proof nickels and a silver plated bronze medal for $19.95. Only 25,000 sets will be sold. Seemed like a good value to me. Guess the big guns thought so to and bought them all up.

Bingo, you guys were right. Called the mint and as of 2:00pm they were not sold out of these. Lady thought I was talking about the other set.

    I just placed an online order for two of them and it went through fine *shrug*. I'm betting the person on the phone thought you were refering to the Westward Journey Nickel set, which is sold out.

    I read about those in CW or NN and I thought it was quite expensive. Is the proof Sac the thing that makes the set worth $20?

    I can't imagine why it would be limited to 25,000 sets, though.

    New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

    It's a nice 'complete' set and is in a nice velvet lined box all together, I think it's well worth $20. The Silver Plated Medal also doesn't look like it's in a capsule, so it'll likely tone up in the box. I'm just going to stash away a couple of them.

    hope it goes through - maybe I shall call them to confirm considering circumstances. I knew they would sell out, but had absolutely NO clue that it would happen this quickly! WOW! image

    Looks like it has something to do with the size of the order. I tried buying 10 online and was told it was sold out, but when I dropped my order size to 5 it went through. We'll see if it gets delivered...

    Just hung up phone with USM. I asked them why, if I placed order 2 minutes after they went on sale, was my order already 'backordered'. She said ALL sales for today would be backordered for 3-4 wks. and she confirmed that my order would be shipped. <crossing fingers> She also confirmed that this was a ONE time offer - they would not reopen sales on this item. image

    I just went to the online site and ordered them.
    The order was confirmed.
    I called to check and they told me my order had gone
    through, and when I asked them if they were sold out
    they told me yes they are, but my order did go through??
    Is it possible they allowed sets to be ordered online after the fact??
    Now I don't know if they're really ordered or not.
    Anyone else have this happen before?

    Who wants to make a guess on when they'll be marked as 'sold out' on the web site and ebay will be filled with them for 2x retail? (Before they even ship, that is)

    They're likely not sold out. The gal on the phone was likely refering to the Westward Journey Nickel Sets.

    The proof Sac is worth about $15 and the nickels are worth about $4 each.

    NO - the gal on the phone was referring to THIS set. I think that the mint has just resorted to cheap gimmick/ploys to up sales.

    I just ordered 5 online with no problem. The problem will be probably be actually getting them.

    I just called and talked to a lady who told me that they are not sold out and that they are still accepting orders, also any orders made online thus far will 'most definately' be fulfilled.

    There is a limit of ten per household, I called to combine my orders
    and they said one will not be filled.
    I wish they would make these thing know ahead of time.
    Guess I didn't need that many anyway.

    Yes, they are, as they generally do. They actually get released and start shipping on Janurary 20th.

    I've never had any problems with communicating with Mint employees. I just always make sure to be very precise and use exact product numbers when ordering and always get a consistant answer.

    Doh! I tried to order online at 11:00 central (I think that's 12:00 ET, right?), but they weren't available yet. Went to lunch, came back, and ordered 2. Email response says I'm good to go, but you never know with the Mint. Still, selling 25,000 pieces in a couple hours, especially for an item with so little fanfare, seems a little extreme. Maybe we'll get lucky.

    Someone is already pre-selling 23 of the sets on eBay for $28.95 each!!! I guess they are predicting a sellout at the mint and getting their auction started early.

    Oddly enough, some people don't realize that anyone can purchase directly from the mint.

    mine only said backordered on the initial order receipt that I printed out - the actual online order processing page says:

    Your order is in process. In stock and reserved especially for you - because you are SO special.

    Well, I joined the lottery and bought 10 sets. Guess thats the individual order limit...or at least that was the prompt I was given when ordering. Maybe somebody will discover that these things were blessed by the Pope, burnished, furnaced or in some other fashion made to contain a unique product. If so, great jackpot news. If not, my neices and nephews will have some nice Christmas stocking stuffers next year!

    The mint is really messed up!!! I speed dialed for an hour and finally got through, was told sold out. I'm a stubborn guy tho, and got thru 2 more times thru the course of the day, just to be told the same thing by different reps. Then I get home at 6 p.m. pacific, and they accept an online order for 10 sets. Its confirmed, thru email, and shows on order history. Now I'm in the same boat (is it sinking yet???) as everybody here. image I hope we get these.
