Did anybody else find that game a little "weird" ?

Am I totally off base ?

Unless you are a PAC-10 or USC fan, every other college football
fan saw last nights game as a slight mismatch in OU's favor.

The line went from USC being a 4 point favorite to a 2 point underdog.
Heavy betting was going down on OU. Which means that most of America
was convinced that OU would not be totally incapable of staying with USC.

The first drive saw OU do exactly what it could have done all night long.
Move the ball at will against USC's defense.
After that, the game got very "suspicious".

I know blowouts happen in sports all the time, but I have watched
college football for over 30 years now, and have never seen anything
like that before.

  • I couldn't get over the fact that every time USC gained more than five yards, the band had to play their stupid fight song. So was the band right next to the press box or what?

I heard that song in my sleep.
  • I'm sure there are many of us that have lost money on a game that we thought was a sure thing. They are few things that make you feel more stupid than losing money on a sure thing bet. You feel taken, cheated, etc. Invariably, you begin to think that surely the game must have been fixed. Surely I couldn't have been that far off in my thinking. Its a natural bettor's inclination. I just hope you didn't lose too much on it or that you start chasing to try and get it back.

I was shocked it was so one sided. OU should have been able to stay with, and even beat USC. USC just played a great game, got way ahead early, and never looked back.

No, I'm just a casual sports bettor. Actually that was my first
sports bet in 25 years. May be my last one until another "sure thing"
comes along. So I never really bet.

The size of my bet was "chump change" really.
I'm not going to try and get it back. I'm going
    to take the loss.

I was just asking the question of did anyone
else find it suspicious of how Oklahoma just
rolled over and played dead. Quite honestly,
I could care less about the "betting side" of it.

The question was more geared towards the
"macho" come out and fight until you can't fight
    anymore aspects of athletics.

A combination of east coast bias and lack of respect for USC's game is why people (and the media) all had OU picked...if you think that these kids threw the game then you are sorely jaded.

    Axtell,

I in no way say that OU threw the game.

I have seen many championship games where we see
both teams exhibit their strengths and expose the
other teams weaknesses. It's fun to watch the chess
match until the final buzzer. This years Texas Michigan
game is a great example of that.

If you saw last nights game, then it became very "weird"
that OU did absolutely NOTHING after their first drive.

Anyone who thinks that USC was a 40 point favorite, or
even a 20 point favorite is clueless. Honestly, before
the game started, if someone offered you OU and
21 points, you would have bet OU.

What we saw last night was very "weird".
Like I said, I've never seen that in a championship game
in college football in the past 30 years.

Look at Ohio State and Miami, Fla a few years back.
We saw two great teams that battled into overtime.
Each team gave a great effort. They fought until the very end.

What OU did last night was "weird" to say the least.

  • I highly doubt they’d go undefeated only to throw the title game. OU looked similar to the OU team that played last year – every time White was pressured he choked, couple that with a retarded punt return attempt and OU’s confidence was hurt pretty early. It looked like everything snowballed from there. BTW, right before the game a ton of $ went on USC, I think that was because people who had OU +4 could now buy a point and get USC +3 so they had a nice middle.

Strange indeed. Chalk it up to White's apparent lack of big-game composure and the botched punt return*. When it happened, I was hoping it would be a back-breaking, momentum-changing play. It was, and then some.

    * - I actually missed the play and only heard muffled audio of it, as I was in another room rocking my sick daughter. For the superstitious out there, I'm now convinced that cleaning up puke just before kickoff is a surefire way to help lead your team to victory.

    Well,

If the Eagles play the Patriots in the Super Bowl this
year and win by 35+, then I guess everyone will come
on these boards and say that is exactly what they thought would of happened.

Well,at least the Eagle fans anyway.
But to the rest of us, huh.

Oklahoma had quite a few "weird" things that contributed to USC getting points (the kick off return fumble on the 5, a few slips
that caused fumbles or blown coverages). That was like 17 points and had to be very discouraging.

  • in the 2 thousand OB with FSU Vs OU I thought we threw it. I mean we had an awesome offense that year...sure we didn't have snoop minnis..But still! We only scored 2 pts...and that was off a bad snap by the OU snapper. It makes me think Weinke or our offensive guys might have thrown the game...they didn't have the best defense and it was post Jeff Bowden Era...I couldn't understand it..but yeah I mean those OU kids had a great season and they just got lit up BAD...Kind of like the colorado game...hmmmm
you know those commercials about "Your hoping for me to make your day? DON'T BET ON IT" or w/e? I donno...I think some sports are fixed...
