GSA MORGAN CC QUESTIONS

I've seen alot of GSA Morgan Unc. CC's for sale on ebay. Can some of you experts give me the pros and cons of buying them. Has anybody purchased any from buyers on ebay with bad experiences? Also, is there alot of switching going on with them? They don't seem to attract alot of attention. Does anybody remember when and what price they sold for? And finally, would anybody here buy them?

Thank you,
eddye

    Eddye,
Me, I would buy them in a heartbeat. Great history behind them in thier original cases. I'm a fan of CC Morgans and I own quit a few of the CC dates. Most are in the GSA cases.
The rest of your questions I'm sure will be answered by fellow board members.

  • yes I would buy them but not off Ebay. I would want to go to a show and have the chance to hold the coin in my hand and asses the grade myself. Half the time they don't even list a grade on Ebay. The coin could be an MS61 or an MS65 from what you can see in the scans so I would not do it unless I could get a better feel for the grade.

I think GSA CC's are one of the best buys in the hobby today image

GSA cc morgans are what i collect. the 79cc 90cc and 91cc have preformed well over the past couple of years. 80cc through 85cc have seen some increase dururing the same period. The expert on this subject is GSAGUY. Do a search on this forum under GSA ,there is lots of information.

  • I agree with what everybody says. I started buying them about 2 years ago and could get the more common dates (82,83,&84) all day long for about $100.

I have found it better to pick the ones off Ebay that seem to come from a non dealer individual rather than someone who sells lots of them. I have been fortunate enough to even buy them with the original shipping cartons and a couple that have never been opened from the day they were shipped from the GSA.

If you want a nice CC Morgan, you just can't get a more "un-messed with" example than a GSA.

It really helped when NGC started grading them in the original holder. If you want to assure yourself that you getting at least an MS-63 example, look for the ones on Ebay with good pictures of the coins and the grade on the holder.

I agree it is always better to cherry pick the ones at major shows but we just don't have that many of them around here.

Original cost on the more common dates was around $30.
