New Member, Hi, ? re: Grading...

Hi Guys,

I'm new board member here so I just want to drop by and say Hello to all of you!.

I've been running into a few dilimeas as I started collecting again after a 7-8 yr hiatus.
Now, that Im back collecting, my collection is basically been buying more HIGH-END cards and now I'm very cautious on how to store them to preserve. Most of many insert/rc cards that book around $50 dollars I put in penny sleeve then top loader. And with the $125 dollar cards I put in the Ultra Pro One Touch Holders.

But at the same time, I have a few other $125 dollar cards which is too thick for the Ultra Pro One Touch (35pt size) and NOT thick enough for the THICK Ultra Pro One Touch (120 pt size) because it moves around. How would you recommend me in storing these type of thick cards (45-50 pt size cards) ?

I also have one or two $400 dollar card and was wondering if I should grade them or not. Like I said, I want to somehow preserve my cards in its condition, and everything that I have bought is basically for my personal collection. Should I grade? If I do, which company is the best overall and why? Pro's vs con's to each grading company?

Thanks for your time and response

Your cards will not realize potential unless graded by a company like PSA, BGS, etc image
For example, your $400 card is not worth near that in raw form, and then the card must grade high to get most of SMR, given that it is a star card of course

Totally depends on the card. YOu said you had some thicker cards, so I'm thinking you have mostly modern stuff? Grading is not nearly as important for post 1980 cards as it is for those prinited earlier. Please share what you have, and are thinking about getting graded. It will be a lot easier for the peanut gallery to chime in if we are able to be specific.

    Welcome to the boards.
  • Sorry, I should have been more specific. Like I said I was new and didn't know how to quite get my message across. Yes my collection is modern cards, basically a player collection Yao Ming and some dual auto cards of my favorite players here and there in different sports.

The cards that Im wondering if I should card or not.

Yao Ming 02-03 SPx Auto/Jersey Rc

Yao Ming 02-03 Finest Rc Auto
    image
Yao Ming 02-03 Ultimate Rc Auto
    image
Both the SPx cards are pretty good, I'd say both would grade anywhere between an 8.5 to 9.
The Finest, I'd say one would be a 9 and the other an 8 or 8.5
The Ultimate, I'd say an 9 or 9.5.

Since, I've attached the .5 scale to some of the cards so would it be better to go with Beckett or PSA? I'm afraid of the PSA holder because first its too thin and second, the SPx card and Ultimate are pretty THICK cards which I've emailed asking if PSA would grade these cards which they have replied in saying yes. But Im just too cautious that it might be too thick for their original PSA holders. Beckett, Im afraid the holder is like a brick, and the inner sleeve might somehow get attached to the auto somewhere down the road, and ruining it.

Thanks for any help you can provide, I've included the scans in the post
