Lots of indian cents to sort through

I was just talking to my dad, he used to own a Pharmacy in Portland Oregon for years (multnomah area) and he saved every indian penny that came through his till. Now he wants me to come down and sort through them for him. He has exactly 496 pennies to sift through, all circulated of course. He has no idea as to the value of any of them.

I was wondering what the best reference material would be to have on hand to look for different types (doubled die and all that). Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Brian

A dream come true! Ah, to be able to search through nearly 500 UNSEARCHED indian cents. The dates in the late '60s through late '70s are the best. Be sure to check for mint marks on the 1908 and 1909s. The war years are cool and are generally a different color, those from 1859 through the middle of 1864.

  • I can't wait.... I have to get down there first as he lives 200 miles away, but I want to come prepared.

Any idea where to get this cherry-pickers guide? I have a strong feeling that this book will not be stocked regularly at my local book shop.
