1975-d lincoln cent silver in color

I read a post created on 01/19/2002 regarding this subject; but there was no postings. I do have a 1975-d Lincoln penny that is silver in color. I have had this coin since I was a child and thought it was fake. Does anybody have knowledge of a coin that is dated 1975-d penny that is silver in color? Or could this be a first? If so how should I proceed in fining out if this coin is authentic?

    1. Get it weighed. If it is around 3.1 grams, you have a normal coin that has been plated. Stop here.

    2. If it weighs more than .25 grams off of the 3.1 gram normal weight, take it to a dealer, preferably a reputable one, who can take a look at the coin and determine whether it's fake or if it could be real.

    3. If the dealer thinks it's real, you think it's real, and the weight is off, send it to NGC - they are the best in the business with errors.

What you likely have if you made it to #3 is a cent struck on a foreign planchet - not extremely rare, but not common either. Probably a $100-$200 item.

Check the weight should be 3.11grams. Could be wrong plachet, or maybe coated with "quick silver" commonly known as mercury.
