    Whew!!!!!

When I was hoarding the 1,500 Topps Ryno rookies, I thought for years I was making a huge mistake, now I know I can make 25 cents each on them.

True story, my brother has three 500 count boxes of Sandberg rookie cards. I think they printed 15,889,887,777,888,754 of them. I think they were all graded 9s and 10s, but of the 15,889,887,777,888,754, one came back an 8.

Anyway, congrats to both of them, they certainly deserved it!

Didnt he sign a contract with the Rays that forces him to wear a DRays hat if he gets into the hall?

Oh wait, that was jose canseco...

No that was Boggs. It'll be nice to add some teal to the hall. [sarcasm mode turned off]

The players do NOT get to pick the hat they wear. The HoF does. The players may get to offer their opinion, but it's the Hall's call.

Actually, 3 - because I unfortunately own a pair of 8's. Fresh from packs, but pulled by the younger me 20 years ago.

But, no Jim Rice? These voters are nuts - he dominated the AL offensively from 1975 to 1985, but unfortunately did not compile the stats of a guy who hung around piling up mediocre numbers for another 10 years. The Hall seems to like stat compilers, rather than guys who dominate for a shorter period of time.

  • I believe Jim Rice is still suffering for being a jerk to writers.

It really stinks that personality always comes into play (and it works both ways obviously). Writers seem to have long memories.

Thanks ajw - I was unaware of that. It will be quite interesting to see the Hall try to match future HOFers with induction teams, given the amount of movement that many players undertake today!

Yeah, I was really disappointed that Rice still didn't make it in. Still, this is the most support he's had up to this point so maybe he might make it in at the last minute (in four years) once the writers realized they can't put it off any more.

Next year should be interesting with a lackluster crop of first-year eligibles. Might be enough for someone like Rice, Sutter, Gossage, Dawson, etc. to get in.
