New Toned Morgan (big pics)

Just wanted to share my new aquisition. It's in an old MS64 ANACS (ANA) holder.
I like the die crack going north from the left wing, through IGWT. VAM?

Interesting coin. That is not a die crack, it is a clashed die. You can also see it inside the right side of the wreath, as well as a "spike" coming out of Liberty's neck.
  • I think that's a clashed die, not a die crack. Nice coin.

Pretty cool. Thanks for pointing it out.

There is a faint crack which winds its way through the upper parts
    of UNITED.

Do you think it could be:

    O1F III21 · C3a (Clashed Obv. Die n) (189) I-2 R-5

Obverse III21– Clashed die with partial incuse n of In from reverse next to Liberty head neck..

    or

    *1C III21 · C3a (3 + 2 Clashed Reverse) ( ? ) I-3 R-4

Obverse III21– Date set at left within normal position.

Reverse C3a– Unusual offset of reverse sideways vee clash marks next to top of right wreath. Top set of sideways vee shows three closely grouped clash marks while lower group shows two with a fairly wide separation. These clash marks appear on very early PL die state coins, so possibly die clashes occurred during the die setup in the press.

Eric, I've always wondered what that raised metal was inside the wreath. I've seen a few Morgans with this and didn't know what it was. Now I do, thanks. image

BigGreek: That's a very attractive Morgan and a nice photo showing the luster and toning.

If you do a bit of white-balance correction to decrease some of those yellow hues in the background slab, you'll get some truer colors and I bet those greens at the periphery of the coins will look blue.
