Medals on a budget...

From time to time my wife finds out what I spend on my medals. And then I'm on a budget! Fortunately for me she has a much more expensive hobby and soon enough I'm back on track because of guilt (I think)... image

So, I watch for bargains. And they can be quite rare at times:
1789 George III Recovers from His Illness ($8)
Listed as R in British Historical Medals as well as Dalton and Hamer. Not a great example but these were poorly struck to begin with.

1796 Heros Buonaparte ($3)
Napoleon was only a general here but he was one of the most popular men in France. This looks suspiciously like an extremely common pair of jetons but in fact is quite rare. The difference? On the obverse he's facing left instead of the common right facing bust...

1804 Coronation of Napoleon I ($13)
Unlike the previous two these are common as sin. They were literally thrown to the crowds lining the streets of Paris. I have several others in better condition, but I paid quite a bit more for those! image

So, for less than $25, including shipping, three nice little additions to the collection. I love the darkside! image

Years of hard work, and saving leave only food and coins.
