Is it possible to get a PSA 5 with a crease?

I feel like I got burned on this auction for a 66 Mantle Ebay Auction

The card has a tiny crease under the Y in Yankees. Do you think I have any chance on getting a PSA 5? Thanks for sharing...

Judging by the scan and your description, yes, you have a chance at a PSA 5. I've had a few cards with small hairline creases come back as 5's. Ex- looks about right for the card.

Yes if it is a barely noticeable surface wrinkle.

Yes, I have had cards with minute creases come back as 5s, "believe it or not"

You guys have been luckier than me. While my experience is limited, both cards that I have submitted with small surface wrinkles have landed in PSA-4 holders...and they were slight enough that I didn't see them prior to submission.

Edited to say: I also think that Ex- was an accurate description of the card.

    Outside chance at a 6, probably a 5, maybe a 4.
Depends on how noticable the surface wrinkle is, and the other merits of the card.

By the way, PSA automatically reduces, by one grade, all cards submitted by srs1a. image

  • I have a card with a very pronounced crease that received a 5. I would swear though that the crease wasnt there when I sent it in. Oh well.

Decent card, but did you check to see if it had been trimmed??
    Good for you.
  • Wow, I never thought that it might be trimmed....how do you tell from an ebay auction? I'm not that new at this even though this is only my second post...thanks everybody.
  • Welcome saint

....how do you tell from an ebay auction?

Short answer is - if it's a good trim job, you can't (There are some bad trim jobs out there!)

One of the many gambles in buying raw cards on scambay!

Good luck, and welcome to 'da boards!

Whenever I see a nice-looking Mantle being sold raw on eBay, I have to wonder why the seller chose to forfeit so much money by declining to get it graded first. Of course the answer most of the time is that they DID try, but had it rejected, or that there's a good reason why they didn't bother. A reason that doesn't get mentioned in the auction, usually.

In this case he did call it EX- in the title, so it's not fraud, but strange that he offered no description whatever in the listing. Ya think maybe the word "crease" would have kept his min. bid from being met? Since you were the only bidder and you were disappointed to see the crease, I'm guessing so.

Anyway, sounds like you're content if it grades PSA 5, and there's definitely a chance of that if it's not trimmed. Good luck.
