Gold collector club level ...change or mistake

Just looking at the gold level collector club benifets and noticed something was not right. i just renewed my gold level last month and just sent them off (free submissions) last week. This morning i looked and you no longer get the four free submissions. is this a mistake or did they take them away for good?

  • Well... I guess I won't be joining PCGS now... why spend $50 or $100 to just get Direct Submission Privaleges and access to the Pop Reports, when I have friends that will submit for me, and will give me pops when I ask?

it appears that the only membership which comes with free submissions is now the Platinum which will still have eight freebies. it's still for two years and the same price, i think. it now seems like the way to go.

Yeah... though, personally... I'd rather take that $180, and put it into coins... and I think the other levels are really a rip-off, but probally a way of PCGS to get more money without really having more submissions to deal with... More profit by charging someone $50 and letting them directly submit and get the pop reports... or $100, and throw in a book... if you just want to be able to submit, why even go for the Gold level?

    hey George

what they appear to want is two year memberships, at least that's how it seems from the way they have restructured the three levels. from my point of view, access to the pop reports, submission priveleges and the Registry are worth the fee at Silver. i can surely turn the eight submissions into $180+++ while also adding nice coins to my long term collection, so that's the sensible way to go. it comes down to a personal decision for each of us.

Looks like there is no longer a reason to be a member of PCGS. NGC is looking better and better. Faster turnaround and you get something for your membership fees.

Maybe this is the plan for PCGS. Increase prices, decrease the submissions be 1)increasing the number required per submission 2)not giving 4 freebies with membership. This will certainly allow them to get caught up.

Here is a question for you... How long will PCGS be able to remain the "elite" grading company with these changes? If NGC gets a little tighter on grading, I can see PCGS dropping VERY quickly. PCGS holders would lose their premium and NGC has the support to keep its position. This could be the start of a very big change in the TPGs.

NGC has already gotten substantially tighter at least in 1950 to 1970 proof coins.

OK, that's gonna happen!!! here's another alternative to wishful thinking, or maybe another form of wishful thinking----Wish in one hand and sh*t in the other, then wait to see which fills up first.imagei can already see the NGC coffers filling as the multitude of small peanuts flee the PCGS Titanic and heads for the NGC Lusitania.

let's be sensible. what PCGS has done is in effect decide to cut out the Free membership that the Silver offered. since the Gold no longer offers free submission, just go with the Platinum. it's a two year offer and actually a better deal than what the Gold had offered before. same offer but for two years instead of one and ever so slightly cheaper. heck, you even save yourself the hassle of having to renew in a year. unless you like to whine and complain about stuff........................

bottom line is that this will affect a small minority of submitters and if it does speed things up---very doubtful---than it's a good thing for us that remain. for myself, i submit as a member of both PCGS and NGC because they both fill a need. i have faith that both the ships will weather this storm and emerge healthy.

    now pass the Kool-Aid, please!!!

Very interesting. I have not had much time to process it, but do you think that perhaps processing smaller dollar transactions is not as profitable as larger dollar ones for PCGS, and the current change in fee structure is to discourage these smaller transactions (by either making them bigger or making them disappear altogether)?

I see some pros and cons, and I have not completely thought through it. More later...(maybe image )

well, if you think about it and assume that the membership stays the same, PCGS saves four submissions at the Gold, gives online access at the Silver and increases revenue by $50 per Silver. here are some make believe numbers and cost estimates for fun:

    Before

100 Silver---no money and no submissions.
    100 Gold---$100 each for $10K and 400 submissions.
    100 Platinum---$200 each for $20K and 800 submissions.
$30K and 1200 submissons in exchange with the other stuff as an advertising wash.

    Now

100 Silver---$50 each for $5K and no submissions.
100 Gold---$100 each for $10K and no submissions.
    100 Platinum---$200 each for $20K and 800 submssions.
$35K and 800 submissions in exchange with the other stuff as an advertising wash while they lose the dead weight that's slowing things down for us Kool-Aid drinkers. they should have thought of this a couple of years ago, i'd already have my last submission back, this place would be less crowded and Sleepy Hollow might actually be a viable entity. OK, nows the time when you wash your hand and get out the air freshener!!!!!!!!
