Maybe you think the price is high, but try putting one together from scratch, and you will get an eye opening experience!
Things always appear to be easier than anticipated at first glance!

<< <i>Watched them sell bullion last night. Unbelievable how stupid the average American is. >>
That should have dawned on you in November.

I did with the exception of the 70-D, 87-P, 87-D, 2002-P & D, 2003-P & D, and 2004-P & D and the coins are fairly decent! Lots of 62's - 64's. It took a bit of time by going through $500 boxes but it was fun plus I got 2 - 1972-S's and a 1974-S along with a bunch of silver!
The reality is that the halves just do not circulate so there is some good stuff out there along with silver.
Now if your an impatient collector, then spend your $400+ bucks but I kind of enjoyed doing it the old fashioned way!

I did it the old fashioned way also. But, in my case my dealer was foresited enough over the years to buy rolls of all date and mint mark combos. I have a very highly graded raw set.
each date mint set though you'll still need to look through some rolls for the ones
that don't appear in sets and most of the varieties.
There was a story recently of a woman who has searched large numbers of boxes
in one of the coin magazines recently. If memory serves, she had most of the proofs
also.
It's a shame you can't do this with dimes and quarters. There are no longer any of
most of the old ones in better than VF and even in this grade they can be very scarce.
On the plus side though, there are some varieties which may not even exist in unc.

My dealer has the dimes and quarters in rolls also! Maybe I need to be looking at those soon!
If he saved them himself maybe there are even some of the varieties.
