An example of why you should consign your coins to an auction firm that actually knows something abo

  • I don't know anything about moderns but it looks pretty cool. Nice fields on that. But I would never pay that amount for a modern.

There are some moderns for which that amount wouldn't even be enough for you to cop a feel.

They are way out of line with the market.

Possibly they quoted PR69DCAM pricing by mistake, but even that is a bit high.

No, because it won't make opening bid.

Since you didn't follow this up with the little sarcasm icon, I assume you think that they've started the bid way too high and won't sell it, right?

  • image Heck, even the Pcgs price guide only shows a price of $139

Correct. I think Cameonut may be right that they were thinking of the market value for a PR69DCAM.

I wonder if Superior goofed on some of their price estimates. Last night, Tradedollarnut posted an example of a Superior lot (a seated dollar, which I understand he knows a little about), with a starting price that looked to be at least five times higher than one would expect the coin to sell. So it may not be a modern vs. classics issue, for a change. image

Sorry for the sidetrack, but their listing page format sucks, and they don't give you any info for paying, like address and s&h&i costs. They say if you pay before you get an invoice, then you did not include their cut. And they don't send an invoice. Happened to me in the 12/15 auction. If you use pay now, it's a black hole.

Superior also has a Bust Dime opening bid listed at about 3x Trends (and 4x Graysheet).

It's not even a good picture!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • I've had significant mistakes in either buying or selling by Heritage and even ANR this past year too (and LOT by Heritage!)

They all seem overloaded, and making big mistakes. image

There two factors that some people might not be considering here.

Number one is the "stupid factor" that's the one in which people overbid for an item because they have heard that high grade coins are valuable. And since they can't afford to buy high grade classics they will bid on this item which is priced a "poor man's" level.

Number two might be that Superior is scratching some big client's back. Perhaps there are other coins in this client's collection or portfolio that they REALLY want, and to make him happy they are making this effort to sell his coin at a price that HE thinks is valid.

And there is the second"stupid factor" that others have already pointed out. Perhaps Superior does not know this market.

At any rate "Two thumbs WAY UP" imageimage to Russ for pointing out an instance of an overpriced modern offering. Honesty like this will go far in legitimizing the modern market.
