Is anyone here aware of this 1971 Lincoln error?

I don't have the coin with me here at work to post a picture at this time but will try to explain what may be a possible error. It is a 1971d lincoln. The one has a bend to it....comes down and bends to the left towards the seven and is very obvious. Half of the one is vertical and the other have is on a 45 degree angle.

Has anybody seen this in an error before?

I have heard of things like that due to damage from rolling machines. Could it be this?

  • I havn't seen one like this throughout all the errors I've seen while looking around. I'll try to get a pic out for you and you experts can be the judges as I'm pretty new and still learning.

This is more common on 1941 cents but it does show up a lot on the '71. '51 is also common as are '67 dimes.

It is probably cause by the coin turning under pressure with a stationary object
right above the surface. When the date turns into the object then the bottom is
is sheared or just forced to the side. There are other types of collision that can
cause the same thing but most of the time they are probably caused by counting
    machines.

If you look you can find very similar damage on most any coins but it is far more
noticeable when it affects the way the date appears.
    Tempus fugit.
  • Is an error like this worth submitting? Does it hold any value? The coin is in vg shape on obverse and has good strike both obv and rev but the reverse has some scratches.

The key is that it's not an error, it's post-mint damage. No value.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
