Help on 1963 Post

I posted another thread below this one, but now it won't let me into the thread, so, I am reposting this since nobody else may be able to see it either.

I have a couple of questions. I am trying to complete Cardinal team sets. Right now I am working on Post cereal. I just bought a 1963 Post team set minus the SP Flood for $46. I thought that was a pretty good deal since the Gibson SMR's for $210 in NM. I didn't even realized it booked that high until after I got the cards.

Question#1 - why is there an auction on Ebay for a decent looking 63 Post Gibson with a Buy It Now for $8.00? You would think with a card that booked for $210 it would be way higher than that. Also, there are a couple of completed auctions that went for less than $10? AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE?

1963 Post Gibson

Question #2 - why did I have to go all the way back to the December 2003 (Lebron James) issue to find 1962 and 1963 Post? Since then, SMR has only listed 1961 Post, and not listed 62 or 63 Post.

Also, why don't they list the 1963 Jello cards in SMR. Since they have different values (i.e. Curt Flood Post $125; Curt Flood Jellos approx $5).

Did they make Jello cards any other year than 1963?

Jello cards were also produced in 1962. The 1963 Post Gibson from this auction is a nice card and the $8 for its condition seems about right to me.

The Gibson books for $210 in NM. The Flood "only" books for $125. When you consider the $8.00 Gibson and this auction here - 1963 Post Flood something just doesn't add up. I know some of you guys out there know the answer!

My thoughts on this are : A. The Gibson seller doesn't have very good feedback
    B. The way the Gibson is cut and the ding above his hat makes that a PSA 5 or so, not NM
    C. Considering the surface wear, the Flood buyer overpaid.

A PSA 5 SMR's for $90! You would think that auctions and/or Buy It Now's would be at least half that! There is too much of a discrepancy here. I just wonder if SMR doesn't have the Gibson miss-priced or something. Even if he doesn't have very good feedback, I still don't see why he would sell a card that high priced for $8.00. I'm just trying to figure all of this out.

I believe the SMR guide is in error about the Post gibson... the 63 Post card of Gibson is worth very little, especially compared to the almost identical 1963 Jell-o card, which would be much more in-line with the price quoted in SMR, and still posted on SMR Online. The Gibson auction you referenced for $8, that card is nearly worthless with the borders all cut off. PSA won't grade them unless they have all 4 borders present, otherwise, they are just slabbed as authentic. However, even if it did have all the borders present and was a PSA 8, it's value would likely not eclipse $40-50. That's exactly why you did not receive a Flood card... the Post card of Flood from 1963 is worth upwards of $100, while his Jell-O from the same year is a common. As far as why SMR doesn't list them... neither set is that popular, as only 127 Post cards have been graded, and only 23 Jell-O's. I have a belief though, that the reason so few are graded is that so few are actually gradable, meaning, have the original borders on all 4 sides. If you look at the majority of Post or Jell-O cards you see at shows, they are usually all missing edges, making them immediately ungradable.

Standard Catalog "price" for a 1963 Post Bob Gibson in EX is $5.00. Buy-It-Now is at least $3.00 overpriced.
