Experimenting with my digital camara. The first picture came out huge. Can anyone guess the grade of the half?

That is a nice crisp image of the reverse. Without a doubt, the Texas Commem reverse is the busiest of any US Coin. I've been trying for a long time to get the lighting right for a picture and it looks like you did real well.
You need to work on the white balance to get the color right. Check your manual for adjustment instructions.
As far as the grade goes the obverse image is a little soft (out of focus) so its a too tough to call. Looks like a nice one though.

YOU SUCK!
the second pic looks real nice. may need color correction?
the size is good and focus is good.
i see some carbon spots.
not sure if those were noted in grade or how the few
tiny spots would down the grade by how much.
nice coin
one of my favorite early commem designs.
Knowledge is the enemy of fear
I like early commems, especially Texas!
Also there should be a white balance on you camera which will stop the picture from coming out yellow.
Assuming your pic is in an NGC slab it probably look more like this.
