Dear valued PayPal® member:

PayPal® is committed to maintaining a safe environment for its community of
buyers and sellers. To protect the security of your account, PayPal employs
some of the most advanced security systems in the world and our anti-fraud
teams regularly screen the PayPal system for unusual activity.

Recently, our Account Review Team identified some unusual activity in your
account. In accordance with PayPal's User Agreement and to ensure that your
account has not been compromised, access to your account was limited. Your
account access will remain limited until this issue has been resolved. This
is a fraud prevention measure meant to ensure that your account is not
compromised.

In order to secure your account and quickly restore full access, we may
require some specific information from you for the following reason:

We would like to ensure that your account was not accessed by an
unauthorized third party. Because protecting the security of your account
is our primary concern, we have limited access to sensitive PayPal account
features. We understand that this may be an inconvenience but please
understand that this temporary limitation is for your protection.

Case ID Number: PP-040-187-541

We encourage you to log in and restore full access as soon as possible.
Should access to your account remain limited for an extended period of
time, it may result in further limitations on the use of your account.

However, failure to restore your records will result in account suspension.
Please update your records on or before January 5, 2005.

Once you have updated your account records, your PayPal session will not be
interrupted and will continue as normal.

It is a fraud. NEVER click on a link in an email from paypal or ebay.
    ebay seller name milbroco
    email bcmiller7@comcast.net

  • No....

Ebay or PayPal will never ask you to click on link in an e-mail to handle something as vital as account information; probably wouldn't ask you to click on a link period for anything. If you think you may have an issue I would call PayPal, otherwise I would delete the e-mail immediately.

  • Forward it to spoof@paypal.com then delete it and they will respond with an auto email telling you if it is from them or not. It's not. It's a "phish" email. Always forward anything you are unsure of to this email. If you get one from the "bay" and you're not sure about it, forward it to spoof@ebay.com. Same thing. I get many of these emails and know most of them by heart..LOL.

    What those guys said, absolutely.

Once, for fun and with full knowedge, I did click on the link and it took me to the scam site with stolen PayPal logos and language. I entered "Dildos-R-Us" as my username and "YoYoMa" as my password. It was accepted, of course. Anything would be, since they're harvesting passwords.
  • Dear valued PayPal® member:

That's the first tip off that it's a fraud. Paypal and ebay have both announced that any legitimate message from them will use your actual name as registered on your account. They never use generic greetings.

Fake as can be - make sure you do as mentioned, and forward it to spoof@paypal.com. At least I can hope they have people working for them who try to shut down these scammers.

  • I have never used Paypal and I got one .
  • Dear valued PayPal® member:

Actually, the fact that they used the word VALUED, is the first sign it is a fraud. image

Yup, their emails will never start with Dear Value, or Dear Member.
All real Paypal emails will have your full name (first & last) above.
