K-643 WEST POMERANIA 100 YEARS UNDER PRUSSIA’S EAGLE, 1915, Struck Proof AR, edge inscribed, Choice PR, RRR
This medal was commissioned by the Numismatic Society of Greifswald.
Obverse: Cliff with ocean view and radiant sun, inscription “Western Pomerania 100 years under Prussia’s eagle.”
Reverse: Eagle, shield, and dates “1815-1915”
After discussion with other Goetz collectors, we have come to the conclusion that this is a much more rare piece than has been assumed. First, take into account that Germany was in the throes of WWI, there were restrictions on metal useage, and how many active members would be in the numismatic club at the time this piece was commissioned.…10, 15 members perhaps? Either way, there can’t be many pieces that have survived in Choice condition.

This is struck on a thick planchet and has the raised lettering on the edge like many of the British Crowns. Even at 38mm it is still a hefty piece and, quite flashy
