Commemorating the achievements in the German airforce of the young pilots, sons of the “old eagles” of World War I. This medal was commissioned by engineer P.R. Gutt of Hamelin. The reverse depicts various airfield locations in Germany in the year 1911, many or which were constructed by P.R. Gutt.

Obverse: Legend, “The hero sons of the old eagles,” with two symbolic eagles being under flown by four German WWII fighter planes. Right field “1941.”

Reverse: Names of the cities and/or training grounds in Germany in the year 1911 with “1911” in the exergue.

The reverse images, so delicate, are hard to imagine being of cast bronze.
