Buying a GSA CC 1883 Morgan NGC ms-64 or a 1882 NGC ms-63? (Money constraints)
Or does anyone have a better idea on how to spend ABOUT $250? Thx in advance.

They are indeed. If that's the goal, shop around and find an ungraded one still in the GSA slab and box. You'll be able to get it for less than your amount of $250 and if you're patient you can find a nice example.

Some people will say buy the scarcer (although here only slightly scarcer) of the two- the '82-CC. Other will say, buy the higher grade- the MS64 '83-CC. If these were the two choices on my list, I'd look for a really nice coin for the grade, including very good eye appela for the grade, be it an '82-CC in MS63, or an '83-CC in MS64, and buy that one.

I usually buy certified mainly because of rip off's. So is there anyone making "knock off" Morgans in gsa holders? Thx again

Well, the possibly-evil National Collectors Mint has been putting replicas in GSA like holders. But you can tell them. They say 100 mill silver or something like that. But the real GSA holders (hard plastic ones) are sonically sealed so I don't think you'll need to worry about tampering.

Sorry for my ignorance but what exactly does the GSA mean? I'm guessing that it's what Russ shows a picture of but who makes it, is it unique for CC Morgans, and does NGC actually grade it inside the plastic?

General Services Administration. The government sold off a hoard of Morgans back in the early 1970's, encasing them in plastic holders and black boxes. Yes, NGC will grade them still in the holder. PCGS won't.

Thanks Russ. Does keeping them encased in these GSA holders make them worth more or are you better off buying the CC Morgans raw or breaking them out of the holder? A CC Morgan is one of the coins I really want but I haven't started a serious hunt for a nice one yet.

My opinion is that they should be left in the original government holder. If you would prefer a raw or graded CC, there are plenty available without busting open the GSA holders.

And alot cheaper, not in holders. A graded GSA w/o government holder goes ALOT CHEAPER. Thx 2 everyone, I really got the answer I was looking for.
