feedback "dilemma" on eBay

I'm sure this must have happened to you all at least once. You win a card on eBay, only to find out that it was NOT as described; and then the seller won't take it back. Even though you are in the RIGHT, you're hesitant to leave negative feedback, since the seller will probably then just turn around and leave YOU negative feedback in retaliation (i've had this happen--my ONE negative feedback was from someone who left it in retaliation--and this person had over 200 negative feedbacks at the time!!!). So you're in a dilemma: you want to let others know to beware of this seller, but if you do, you're liable to be slandered in the process. A real "catch 22".

  • 1 or 2 retaliatory feedbacks really should not affect a resonable buyer's perception of you.

Furthermore, you can always reply to any negs you have by stating it is retaliatory.

    Good for you.
  • You always have to look at a person's neg. feedback, and ask the reason WHY they have negs.

Those who say that you only need to look at the ebayer's %, are not considering the whole picture.
  • Create one ID for buying and one for selling.
  • I snipe my negative feedback. Since it can only be left for 90 days, wait til the last secong, snipe a neg, and they are unable to retaliate!

Steve, what was the card? Did he provide a nice scan or one of those out of focus jobs to confuse the buyer?

Sure they can, if they're mad enough at you. They can email your bidders and tell them you're a fraud, costing you bids. They can use a different ID to bomb all your BIN's just so they can give you a raft of negs, then not pay up, again costing you sales. Since they only use that ID for shenanigans, your retaliatory negs are meaningless. They have your email address from the first auction, so they can sign you up for a few dozen daily spams from porn merchants.

All this takes time and effort ... but hell hath no fury etc etc.
  • as 5THSCALE said, you can always go back and respond to feedback that has been left for you. not only do i look at %, but i will also glance at the first page of their feedback to see what others have said. this is why i hate when people wait till the other party has responded to leave their fb. when i sell something, i always leave feedback when i recieve payment. i know what i am selling, i have no reason to fear their feedback. but now when i buy, i only leave feedback when the seller does. you have my money, what part of the transaction could you neg me for? unless you know you sold crap and want to see what i'll have to say about it. i get so many eamils like, "your item has shipped. please leave me positive feedback when you recieve it and i will do the same." they won't have the chance, because i will not leave feedback when it is held 'hostage'. my fb rating is a 1031, but if everything went as planned, it should probably be around a 1500 by now.

  • Just use this nifty site. It will tell you all you need to know about anyone on ebay! image

The eBay item was #5148721978. The scan looked convincing enough (i don't know how to post it here), and his description was certainly inviting enough. And to be safe, i STILL e-mailed him and asked about corner wear, to which he replied he couldn't really see much, if any wear. So again, it looked like a safe bet for at least a Nm-Mt. But no way..the LR corner especially is worn and chipped; and the other corners show obvious wear too, but you won't see it on the scan.
  • It seems that buying raw vintage cards on eBay is a crapshoot... Does anyone have a list of reputable raw vintage dealers on eBay?
