Consignments at your local brick and mortar coin store.....

Walked in to a shop I've dealt with on many occasions, and he had a handful of coins there on "consignment"......... Picked one up for around $125...... then he added sales tax........... Seemed kinda strange that his shop is required to collect sales tax on coins he doesn't own, but hey, wasn't worth the arguement......... What do you think......... should tax have been charged? I might add that usually when I go in, we just agree on a price, I hand him the check, and I leave.......... Don't think I've asked for a receipt in 20+ years............ Hmmmmmmm.........

I guess if sales tax is applicable in Indiana...then yes he (should have) charged the buyer...and would loose his "juice" if he did not pass it on to you.
Ownership of the item does not enter in to the equation.
It may be possible to arrange for a buyer to pay the owner direct and pay a commission to the seller, but it does not seem worth the aggrevation on a small sale.
Happy New Year to all.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.
