According to the State Bank:
On Jan. 1 one million old Lira will equal 1 New (Yeni) Lira (~$1.43 U.S.). One hundred New Kurus will equal 1 New Lira.
Planned coins are 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 Nk and 1 NL.
Planned notes are 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 NL.
Old coins and notes will be withdrawn over a one year period but convertible for the next ten.

All part of trying to get accepted into the EU.

About time that they made this move. When I was there 2 years ago I felt like I was using play money.

Old, old problem. I lived in Turkey in 1978-79. When I got there $1 = 20 lira. When I left it was something like $1 = 2,000 lira. Dollars were in very high demand in Turkey because of their stability. Go figure.
