Blue Ribbon coin cleaner. Anyone know anything about it?

Is it any good? Bad for coins/good for coins? Can you tell if it has been used? Is it still available?

Thanks, Richard.

I have a bottle that I'll occasionally coat old, original copper in.
  • It's Blue Ribbon Coin Conditioner.
    It's good for copper.
If you can't find any use sewing machine oil or #5 hydrolic oil.

I was told it is no longer being made.

It's a good product for treating copper, it leaves a protective coating on coins that could lead to a bodybag at a grading service if one doesn't carefully remove the coating/film/residue.

  • Also, if not removed thoroughly can cause Red or Red-Brown copper the coin to turn color severely. I have had this happen to coins I removed PVC from and subsequently got slabbed without problem. A year or two later they didn't look like the same coins. I basically stopped using it but hear that a treatment with watermark solution afterwards will help the removal process greatly.
