Ike people, give me your ideas on this one!

I went through about 100 Ikes in 2 X 2"s at a local shop today and picked out the one that I judged to be the best of the lot.

Tell me how you feel it looks and possibly a grade idea!

Thanks, Ken

Fine Fine, it just needs an acetone bath.

63 - 64 Looks like a few hits to me.
  • You have to look at the coin and see if there are ANY miniscule hits - if there are, you're probably looking at an MS64/65. If there aren't, and the luster is there, and it looks kinda like this one, then you have MS66 material.

it looks hazed over and should grade MS64. while a rinse to remove the haze would work, you'll probably be stunned by how much that same rinse will show unbefore-seen planchet flaws and tiny ticks/abrasions. i have rinsed exactly one Clad Ike Dollar and that experience taught me to accept them the way they are found, more harm is done than good.

  • I agree with Keets - take the skin off the coin and you'll be able to see every last one miniscule imperfection.

If that is a horizontal mark across the eagles breast it will most likely go 64/65 assuming that is haze in the right field (our right).

Looks clean but dull, I doubt it would go higher than 64 or 65. Please note that all I know about these coins you can fit on Ike's head and not touch a single hair. image

Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.

  • Thanks much guys!

I'll send it along with my next submission to NGC and see what they say. I need to get me a handful graded so I can have a small grading set!image

Looks really close to my toned PCGS MS65. I think they give you a small tick or two on the larger coins.

It looks pretty good to me. Great strike with a reasonably new die and somewhat subdued luster shouldn't
affect the grade a lot. The coin seems quite clean so MS-65 should be a done deal. If it looks as good with-
out the haze then 66 becomes possible but a long shot.

This doesn't appear to be a mint set coin since they tend to have booming luster and are struck by newer
dies. Mint set coins usually have far more marking but the gems are spectacular.

  • Thanks again guys. I missed out here last evening because my ISP was down, and, when that got fixed, the whole CU thingy was down!image
